Spain is very green, at least at this time of the year. Once again today we experience the rains of Spain!
We start out late again today as our walking day is short mileage-wise. It is raining lightly as we start, walking along the bay at Cee before climbing up village streets and finally onto a dirt path through the woods. The wind and rain increase as we go.
We enter an area of brilliantly yellow bushes, somewhat different than the ones we say previously. A local tell us these are the Retama bush, also known as “bridal bloom or bridal veil bloom”.
Time passes quickly with one short morning coffee stop. We begin to get wonderful ocean views. As we approach the town of Finisterre the rains increase as does the wind. We walk the last two kilometers into Finisterre on the beach. The views are magnificent but the rain is horizontal into our faces. We wade across two small beach streams and our shoes are soaked.
We press on through town and high up the hill to our accommodation. Wet clothes are removed and dried in the hotel laundry for a small fee.
We relax and wait for the rain and wind to die down so we can hike the last distance to the lighthouse at the “end of the world” and the official end of the Camino Finisterre.
At 5 pm we head to to Pilgrim Credential Office to get our completion certificate for this Camino. Then on to the lighthouse. It is raining lightly and the winds build again. We reach the lighthouse in fog and heavy winds. The views are nonexistent, but it is a great experience. Just to be here is very special. We can hardly stay upright in the wind, but we savor the moment.
Satisfied wih our accomplishments over the past 6 weeks, we retrace our steps back to Finisterre for drinks and dinner.
